Nitrogen, like sulfur, plays an important role in protein synthesis; therefore, there is a close relationship between plant nutrition with nitrogen and sulfur. As a rule, the input of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers increases the plant need for magnesium, therefore, a certain ratio between these elements is important. When cultivating crops on soils lacking mobile sulfur, crop yields and product quality may decline. Provision of plants with sulfur is the main factor in obtaining high-quality vegetable protein, therefore, in order to obtain sustainable crop yields and proper product quality, adequate nutrition of plants with sulfur is required. With a lack of sulfur, protein synthesis deteriorates and the efficiency of the nitrogen taken by plants from fertilizers decreases.
